A year ago we announced that a series based on Michael Dibdin’s Aurelio Zen novels had been commissioned, and it would be filmed on location in Rome. Now that the PBS premiere has been announced for July 17th, we’d like to give everyone a heads up alert. For those who’d like to read ahead, the adapted novels are Vendetta, Cabal and Ratking. As we fully expected, Rufus Sewell cuts una bella figura as the Roman detective with a Venetian name. Bond Girl Caterine Murino (Casino Royale) co-stars as Zen’s love interest Tania Moretti, and Ben Miles (Coupling, Lark Rise to Candleford) lends both wit and intrigue as Zen’s unofficial taskmaster. The Italian locations, many in Rome’s sun-drenched EUR district, captivated British audiences in the grip of one of the bitterest winters in memory, and it is equally sure to gratify armchair travelers on sizzling summer nights. The DVD (coming soon after the series finale) will include “An Italian Adventure,” a behind-the-scenes look at how the cast and crew set a style that harks back to Sixties favorites like The Saint.

Can’t wait!!!!
Looks great!!
Hopefully this will be “G” for general audiences and not “R” for raunchy, racy, and wretched. Just saying.
Watched all available episodes on a transatlantic flight – 6 I think!! excellent. Can’t wait for series to begin in July – even though I’ve seen so many!
Absolutely delightful as a detective show with a “little” romance on the side. Very cleverly done!
I may be an old lady but he is a HUNK !!!!!!
Beautiful people solve crimes and hop into bed with each other. By the second episode it all started looking and sounding the same to me. Guess I prefer grizzled coppers like Wallander or the cold-case guy in Waking the Dead (or even Miss Marple). This was just a little too slick and stylized for me.
We love this series, we just need more episodes. And Caterine Murino is smokin’ hot!
This is a great series. Who decided to cancel it? I was looking forward to future episodes. It’s refreshing to see an ordinary guy come out on top. Also, although Zen knows when to say nothing, his eyes speak volumes!
Are the plans to make more Zen’s or the continue the series? We only saw three and really enjoyed them.
Understated, low-key, unlike it’s American counter-parts; little gore, foul language, violence, etc. Beautiful scenery, well acted, excellent plots, let’s have more!
More Zen, please!
