Who said religion is no laughing matter? On windswept Craggy Island, somewhere off the coast of West Ireland, Father Ted Crilly (Dermot Morgan) is charged with the unenviable task of looking after the affairs of the local parish and its inimitable residents.
There's Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon), a blissfully unaware young priest, whose blinding optimism and short-term memory are recurring instruments for the humiliation of Ted. And of course, there's the perpetually-drunk Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly). When not sleeping in his chair, Father Jack is usually screaming abuse, dreaming of past exploits or shouting for more "Drink!" Rounding out the household is Mrs. Doyle (Pauline McLynn), the omnipresent housekeeper who keeps a vigilant eye on the Parochial House and its guests, ever-ready with a hot cup o' tea.
And, as if they're not enough for poor Father Ted, he also has the residents of Craggy Island to shepherd. What with its crazed geriatric footballers, rakish milkmen on the make and even a burping sheep, it's enough to drive even the level-headed Ted beyond the brink of sanity!
In a perfect world, Ted Crilly would be relaxing alongside glamorous, bikini-clad women at his own parish in sun-kissed L.A. But in reality, Ted is stuck on this weather-worn island, forced to spend the majority of his time attempting to remove himself and his colleagues from embarrassing and increasingly bizarre situations.
Go on and pay a visit with Fathers Ted, Dougal and Jack, three Irish priests exiled to Craggy Island as pennance for their personal peccadilloes. A comic masterpiece.
Includes the following episodes:
Good Luck, Father Ted: Ted gets the chance to appear on "faith of our Fathers," the prestigious Eireann telly show. Could this be the opportunity for him to find television stardom and escape from Craggy Island?
Entertaining Father Stone: For six years Father Stone has been coming to Craggy Island, which is at least seven years too many for Ted, Dougal and Jack. Ted tries everything to get him to go, but when Father Stone finds himself on the receiving end of a bolt of lightning, he becomes equally desperate to get him back.
The Passion of St. Tibulus: The controversial movie "The Passion of St. Tibulus" has been banned by the Pope but through some loophole is being shown on Craggy Island. Bishop Brennan asks Fathers Ted and Dougal to get the film withdrawn, and as a result it becomes the most successful film in the cinema's history.
Competition Time: The "All Priests Look-A-Like Competition" has come around again and Henry Sellers, host of the almost popular "Morning Quiz," is coming to judge it. Ted is determined that this year he will defeat his fellow priests from Rugged Island.
And God Created Woman: Novelist Polly Clarke, author of a steamy book comes to stay on the Island and Ted mistakenly believes she has fallen for him. Will it be bright lights, glamour, excitement and a new life for Ted? Or will Polly decide to give it all up and become a nun?
Grant Unto Him Eternal Rest: Father Jack consumes more floor polish than is good for him, but he leaves Ted and Dougal half a million pounds. But will he stay dead long enough for them to get it?
