Jonathan Creek hasn't quit his day-job of devising stunning feats for a hack magician, but his gift for lateral thinking finds its worthiest outlet when impossible mysteries are thrust upon him. This seven-hour set includes all four feature-length specials, including two never seen on US TV!
Black Canary: The famous female illusionist known as The Black Canary is found dead in her rambling mansion. For Jonathan, an encounter with both an old flame and the swashbuckling Detective Inspector Gideon Pryke (Rik Mayall, The Young Ones) adds even more spice to an already baffling enigma.
Satan's Chimney: When an actress is murdered on the set of her latest movie, Jonathan Creek is called upon to explain how the killer managed to fire a gun through a plate glass window without breaking it.
The Grinning Man: Stage musician Lance Gessler lives in a mansion known as Metropolis that has a deadly history. When another victim succumbs to an ominous presence in the attic room, it's up the Jonathan to unravel the mystery. US premiere!
The Judas Tree: Jonathan Creek is called upon by his friend and skeptic Joey to investigate a series of mysterious and spooky events at a house called Green Lanterns. US premiere!
Black Canary (90 mins)
Maddy and Jonathan investigate the apparently impossible death of a female illusionist. But this time there is another lateral mind at work, in the form of DI Gideon Pryke.
Satan's Chimney (119 mins)
Doomdorf Castle 1557. A cart hurtles past carrying two prisoners - a man and a woman. In the castle the woman is tied down at the base of a deep cell-like chamber - Satan's Chimney. Later, when her captors return all that remains are some ashes. This thrilling Jonathan Creek special takes place in the present day. An actress dies mysteriously on the set of a film. The police believe it is a suicide. Jonathan, however, is not convinced and when he, members of the cast, the director and her ex-husband head for Doomdorf Castle and the funeral, the mystery of Satan's Chimney comes back to haunt them.
The Grinning Man (119 mins)
Houdini meets whodunnit
On Midsummer's Day 1938, a famous Harvard geneticist accepts a challenge to spend the night inside a gloomy old attic room where the ghost of a madman is said to prey upon human flesh. The next morning, he has impossibly vanished; the only clue to his disappearance being a trail of grisly ectoplasm on the bed. Seventy years on, when two young women take shelter there one night from a raging thunderstorm, it's not long before the ominous 'presence' claims another victim. Determined to get to the truth about what has happened to her friend, the fearlessly sceptical Joey Ross finds herself working alongside veteran lateral thinker Jonathan Creek, as together they try to solve the riddle. As further unexplained mysteries begin to take place around the house, their investigation deepens. Can Jonathan once again render the impossible, possible? And will he - this time - be eclipsed by the sheer, raw intuition of his young counterpart?
The Judas Tree (90 mins)
Jonathan Creek is called upon by his friend and sceptic Joey to investigate a series of mysterious and spooky events at a house called Green Lanterns, concerning a young housekeeper called Emily.
Emily has only recently started working for the owners of Green Lanterns - the famous mystery author Hugo Doré and his wife, Harriet. But her new role comes with a house that has its own fair share of history and mystery...
As Creek and Joey investigate, things take a turn for the worse when a piercing scream is heard in the garden and Harriet is seen falling from a window. But who pushed her and why? When Emily is arrested, she swears she didn't commit the murder. With Emily on trial, Creek and Joey race against time to try and prove her innocence, uncover the mystery behind the murder and find the real culprit. Using his powers of deduction and belief that nothing is at it seems, Creek uncovers a number of intriguing clues which lead him to the unbelievable truth and the revealing of one of the greatest acts of illusion he has encountered yet.
A deftly-written and witty script with plenty of twists and turns makes this a feature-length drama certain to delight fans and newcomers alike.
