Consistently hailed as a benchmark for modern drama, award-winning MI-5 returns for a rip-roaring eighth season. As Series Eight begins, the fallout from Russia's thwarted attack on London finds the team in a race against time to rescue Harry, who has been kidnapped by rogue Russian agents. But as they dig deeper into his disappearance, they find a trail that leads to Iraq, and a conspiracy that involves the CIA, MI6 and some missing weapons-grade uranium. Could Harry know where it is? And how is former team member Ruth Evershed, returned to the security of MI5 having fled her new life in Cyprus, connected to it all?

Episode 1
Harry is still missing and there is one question on everyone's mind: is he dead or alive? Section D discovers that Harry thwarted a clandestine operation to smuggle weapons-grade uranium into Iraq to justify the war. Now the rogue officers who masterminded the operation want their uranium back and they are prepared to go to any lengths to get it. If Harry is not dead already, is it too late to save him?

Episode 2
The country reaches crisis point when energy supplies are threatened by an explosion at a gas processing plant. With reserves on the verge of running out, Britain is forced to turn to Tazbekstan for help. But in return for energy, the Tazbek Trade and Industry Secretary, Urazov, wants carte blanche to wipe out his enemies on British soil. Is this a price worth paying, or can Section D get rid of Urazov in order to secure the deal?

Episode 3
The pressure is on for Section D when a secret meeting of powerful tycoons is stormed by armed terrorists and eight of world's richest men are taken captive. But this is no normal hostage situation. Undercover at the time, Ros is one the hostages. As events spiral out of control, it looks like no one will make it out alive. Is this the end of the road for Ros?

Episode 4
Lucas's past comes back to haunt him when his former torturer, Darshavin, turns up with intelligence about a bomb in London. Harry fears Darshavin still has a psychological hold over Lucas, but Darshavin will not deal with anyone else. With innocent lives at risk, Lucas must confront his demons for the sake of the nation. Can he overcome his Nemesis in order to save the day, or will the pressure be too much to bear?

Episode 5
Section D is caught on the back foot when two CIA agents are found dead. As the team tries to make sense of the murders, more officers are killed. MI5 is placed on high alert, but Ros insists on putting herself in the firing line in order to draw out the killer. Will the risk pay off, or will Ros become another victim? Meanwhile, Ros's mentor raises questions about Harry's past, and Ruth makes a shocking discovery...

Episode 6
With Britain on the verge of financial meltdown, Section D must recover over £1 billion from one of the world's most impenetrable banks, or the country will slide into depression. The team needs vital account information from one of the bank's employees, but has no idea where he is, and a team of deadly assassins is out to silence him. Will Section D get to its asset in time to pull Britain back from the brink?

Episode 7
When Section D discovers that a group of Hindu nationalists is planning an attack on the Muslim community, the race is on to find out when and where. Their only asset is a scared teenage boy who cannot handle the pressure, and Lucas has his work cut out trying to keep him on-side. Meanwhile, the team makes a shocking discovery about Nightingale and a horrifying realization dawns on them...

Episode 8
With India and Pakistan on the brink of war, emergency talks are set up in an exclusive London hotel. Section D faces its biggest challenge yet, as the team tries to avert the first nuclear confrontation since World War II. When the Indian delegation abandons the talks, it looks like Nightingale's sinister plan will succeed. Lucas and Ros place themselves in grave danger in a final attempt to defeat Nightingale. But will they make it out of the hotel alive?

"... Spooks still delivers high-class escapism at its slickest, most glamorous and entertaining ... balancing pin-sharp characterisation with plots of such tension-ratcheting complexity that a rollercoaster ride was virtually guaranteed in every episode. If last night's opener was anything to judge by, series eight promises to be just as good." Gerard O'Donovan, Daily Telegraph

"Superbly plotted and scripted, it feels good to be back in the shadowy realms of this intelligence thriller." Mike Bradley, Observer

"Spooks - it grips like a Swiss zoo bear." Garry Bushell, Daily Star Sunday

"Oh. My. Goodness. We haven't been this excited about a show coming back for quite a while!" News of the World

"The best spy show on TV returns this week, and after meeting the cast on set and sneaking a peek at a top-secret preview, HotTV can't wait." Daily Star

"Main character in peril? Race against time to find explosives? Lots of blinking and bleeping technology? The eighth series of Spooks ... still manage[s] to generate the kind of tension that sends you running from the room during the really unbearable moments." Critics' Choice, Sunday Times

"They're back, hurtling into action as if they'd never been away ... Honour-bound not to reveal his [Harry's] fate ... we can only confirm that cool, classy Ros, huge-eyed Jo and smouldering Lucas are in evidence, and a new CIA blonde promises emotional and professional ambivalence. Tosh, glorious tosh, which ones one proud, if breathless, to be British." Martin Hoyle, Financial Times

"Most series end with a cliffhanger. This starts with one ... There's just more of those endless shocks which might be unbearable for them [the characters], but keep us fans on the edge of our comfy seats."
Jane Simon, Daily Mirror

"...who doesn't feel a thrill of excitement when a new series of Spooks hits our screens?"
Sophie Heath, Daily Mail

"The eighth and latest series of Spooks promises to be real edge-of-your-seat stuff and is destined to be a cracker, if the seventh was anything to go by." Sunday Sun

"Our fave spy show, Spooks, explodes on to our screens this week for another high-octane series. And it's no wonder applications for MI5 are soaring if all secret service agents look like hunky Lucas (played by Richard Armitage). Sally Eyden, News of the World

"The BBC's sleek spy drama returns, still in remarkably fine fettle for a show that has run for the best part of a decade." Independent On Sunday

"The secret of its longevity? It's largely that no character, even those played by the leads, ever seems entirely safe." Jonathan Wright, Guardian

"Another week, another scorching episode of the mile-a-minute drama" Daily Mail

"A typically high-octane opener" Independent

"They make free with the lives of the cast on this show, in a way that no other drama would dare to"
Daily Express

"The eighth series promises to be the best yet " Sun

"Exciting as ever" Observer

"It's always fun to have a new series of Spooks ... Unashamedly wham-bam entertainment, it is filled with chases and explosions and technical wizardly, performed with the hatchet-faced seriousness of actors who are called upon to save the world ... Most of the episodes involve a race against time, but this one includes a whole series of races-against-time, all running simultaneously. Spooks has never been afraid of overkill."  The Times

"Over the years, we have come to expect a great deal from this drama ... anything less than a five-star episode would be a huge disappointment. But there's no fear of that yet as, here we go again, another corking hour of television entertainment" Daily Mail

"Played with such brio by Richard Armitage and Hermione Norris" Daily Telegraph

"Rattling entertainment" Financial Times

"This episode ends with yet another shocker. But with its moody soundtrack and skin-tight editing, we
are putty in the hands of Spooks ... we'll happily believe anything they tell us" Daily Mirror

"Hermione Norris was sublime" People

[The final episode] "Even more mesmerizingly watchable than usual ... heart-in-mouth stuff" Observer

Happy Pearce - MI-5 Full Name: Sir Harry (Henry) James Pearce
Occupation: Head of Counter-Terrorism Department
Joined MI5: 2002
Harry's name is synonymous with the fight against terrorism at MI5. His career began in the Army, before he was head-hunted for MI5. He hasn't looked back. He's dedicated to his job and really believes he can make a difference to the country. Calm and confident, Harry can usually make the toughest of decisions without showing a flicker of doubt.
Ros - MI-5 Full Name: Rosalind Sarah Myers
Occupation: Senior Case Officer
Joined MI5: 2006

Ros has the Secret Service in her blood. Her father was a business mogul with high-ranking political links. The world of politics and espionage is all she knows, and it's all she wants to know. She's married to her job, utterly uncompromising, ruthless and will do anything for what she believes to be the 'greater good'.
Ros became a spy for Yalta and after being exposed as a traitor, Adam helped her fake her own death. She's now back on The Grid.

Lucas - MI-5 Full Name: Lucas North
Occupation: Senior Case Officer
Joined MI5: 1992

Having spent the past eight years in a Russian prison, Lucas is welcomed back by MI5 supremo and old friend, Harry, who was instrumental in finally securing his release. Lucas is keen to get back to work straight away and, with Section D's current priority operation having a strong Russian connection, he could well prove invaluable. But, after eight years with only a high ranking Russian spymaster for company, can Lucas's loyalty really be taken for granted?
Jo - MI-5 Full Name: Jo Portman
Occupation at MI5: Junior Case Officer
Joined MI5: 2005
Jo first stumbled across the team when she was an aspiring journalist. She got a visit from Adam dressed as a gas meter reader and was immediately suspicious something was up. Her natural spy instincts lead her to follow Adam to an MI5 safe house, where she got caught up in a shoot-out and her quick thinking helped the team track down the perpetrators.
As luck would have it, Jo was looking for a job, and MI5 were looking for new recruits. Adam grabbed the chance and offered Jo a job with the team.

Malcolm - MI-5 Adam Full Name: Malcolm Wynn-Jones
Occupation: Technician and Data Analyst
Joined MI5: 2002

Malcolm's mind works at the speed at light, making connections and deductions that can make the difference between life and death to the spooks in the field. While some of the rest of the team might tend to take all the glory, they can usually owe their success to a piece of Malcolm's expert knowledge. But he's not the kind of guy to make a fuss. He doesn't relish the limelight and when the job's done, he's more likely to bury his head in a cryptic crossword than start shouting about his success.
Connie - MI-5 Full Name: Connie James
Occupation: Senior Analyst
Joined MI5: 1963

Connie started out as a secretary for MI5 when she was 19. In the intervening years she's become one of the sharpest, most resourceful, no-nonsense operators in the British security services. How? Because she knows all the secrets.
Ben - MI-5 Full Name: Ben Kaplan
Occupation: MI5 Junior Case Officer
Joined MI5: 2007

Ben was an aspiring journalist who got wrapped up in Section D's affairs after sleeping with Jo. Harry recruited Ben after discovering he was extremely resourceful and had the makings of a good MI5 officer.
Adam - MI-5 Full Name: Adam Henry Carter
Occupation: MI5 Senior Case Officer
Joined MI5: 2004

An enigmatic and natural performer, Adam had the power to push himself and his colleagues to the edge to get the job done - then pick up the pieces. This combination of strength and compassion, alongside his absolute belief in the Intelligence Service, made Adam a formidable leader.
His MI6 wife, Fiona, was his greatest stimulus. And beneath it all, Adam dreamt of sharing a stable home life with his wife and child. It wasn't to be: Fiona was shot while trying to avenge her previous life in Syria. Adam went into denial, but then realised focussing on his work was the best way for him to handle his loss.
After discovering that Al Qaeda had planted a bomb in a car during Remembrance Sunday, Adam drove the vehicle to some disused land. Just as he stepped out of the car, the bomb exploded, and Adam took the full brunt of its force.
