Orde Wingate was a
military prodigy credited by many for
changing the course of modern warfare. This
riveting performance by Barry Foster (Frenzy, The Wild Geese) reveals
a controversial military leader hailed by Churchill as a “man of genius
who might well have become also a man of destiny.” Born into a
religious family, Wingate became a passionate Zionist during foreign
service in Palestine. His revolutionary guerrilla tactics, training of the
Israeli Defense Force, plus his wartime efforts in Africa and Burma,
would ultimately secure Wingate’s notorious place in history. This
celebrated BBC dramatization of the military career of one of the most
controversial and unorthodox Allied commanders of World War II also
stars James Cosmo (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Denholm
Elliott (A Room with a View).
