?A vivid and remarkable film, shot in colors as blinding as the canvases that Van Gogh so famously failed to sell.? ? The Times
Great viewing for a starry night! The tragically
short life of Vincent van Gogh is dramatized in this acclaimed
installment of BBC?s Omnibus series. Van Gogh started out working for an
art dealer who fired him. Then he worked as an independent missionary
in a coal mine after he failed to get a post in the Church. Notoriously
unlucky in love, he produced over 2000 paintings and sketches, yet sold
only one before his suicide in the south of France at the age of 37. This
award-winning film paints a kaleidoscopic portrait of the troubled Post-
Impressionist, depicted by Golden Globe?-winner Linus Roache (RFK,
Batman Begins), with appearances by Jack Shepherd (The Other Boleyn
Girl, The Murder Room) and Academy Award? winner Jim Broadbent (Iris,
Moulin Rouge).
